Categorizing Catalog Items

There are three steps to categorizing catalog items to display in specific categories on your site.

  • First: You must specifify a page in your "Site Pages" area to be a "Catalog Page"
  • Second: Create a category in your database
  • Third: To have the item appear on a page you need to categorize it in your data

Creating a Catalog Page:
1. Click on the icon of the page you would like to edit. You will then go to the "Page Properties" screen.

2. Scroll to the "Page Type" section and click on the "Catalog Page" radio button.

3. Scroll to the bottom and click the "Save Changes/ Update" button. (You will now notice that the page has a different icon in the Site Map, this specifies that it is a "Catalog Page")

Creating a Category in Your Database:
1. Go to your database area by clicking on the "Inventory" button

2. Under the "Manage Product Categories" area, enter the name of your category. (Note: It is usually a good idea to name the category something similar to the "Category Page" you created so you can remember what it for future reference.)

3. Select the "Assign Items Manually" type and click the "Add"
button.

Click 'Uncategorized Items'. The items you've added will appear at right.

Click an item and fill in whatever info you want it to have.

About 2/3 of the way down this page, there is a scroll box labeled "Categories and Sections Item Appears In" -- select the category(s) that apply - for instance "Shoes - Men's" (or whatever you have there).

At bottom of page, click "Update" when you're finished with this item. You can go back anytime and change or update this info.
