Moving Your Web Site Address

If you already own a web site address (domain) that you want to use with your new site, you'll need to 'point it' to our servers so that users can find your new ClientReady site when they enter your web address into a browser.

The steps are:

1. Find out what site to go to "point" your site address to see our servers

Call us at 530-297-7845 or email us and we'll let you know where to go and help you

2. Submit a request

Go to the site where you originally registered the web site address and submit a request to change your current DNS server settings to see:

NS1.WEBSITEMACHINE.COM and
NS2.WEBSITEMACHINE.COM

3. Add the site address in your web site's backend area under "Domain Manager"

See instructions here for this.

Most people have registered their site through Network Solutions/Verisign. If this is the case for you, here are the steps to file a request to point your web site address at our servers:

FIRST, you need to find out if the email address that they have on record for you is one you still have available, because you will receive an email from Network Solutions AT THAT EMAIL ADDRESS, asking you to OK the web site address change.

You can find out which address they have on record for you here:

http://netsol.com/cgi-bin/whois/whois

Enter the name of your site, such as billsmith.com or kensfishstore.com, click GO, and see what email address they have on record for you. You MUST be able to receive and reply to email send to that address. If you don't still have that address you'll need to first file a form asking Verisign to change it in their records.

Here's how to change your DNS (Domain Name Server) info, so that users can find your new site when they type in your web address:

Step 1:

Click here to go to Network Solutions and file a request

Network Solutions is a company that is sort of the police of internet web site addresses. You file a request with them to have your web site address 'moved'. This does not change ownership of your site name in any way - it just tells others where to find your web site.

Enter your site name as in the example below:

Step 2:

From the pull down menu, select 'transfer my Domain Name to another ISP'.

Step 3:

Enter the email address that you think they have on record for you, and your web site address.

Step 4:

Under Name Server Information, enter the info shown below, and click Submit button below.

Step 5:

You'll get an email almost immediately that you have to reply to, as follows:

All you have to do is click REPLY in your email program and copy the email they sent you into your reply, then send it.

You'll get a reply saying they've got your reply and it will usually take 2-4 working days for the changes to take effect.
