Despite
all the fantastic features that DO come
with your ClientReady site, you do
need to have an account with a credit
card processing company to start accepting
credit cards on your site.
Click
here for more info on exactly what happens when a credit card is processed
on your web site
What
your ClientReady site DOES provide is
the code that 'talks' to the credit card
processing company that you select. This
is important, because without it you couldn't
validate charge cards from your web sites.
There
are 2 ways you can begin accepting credit
cards on your web site:
- Establish
a regular merchant account with
your bank or a merchant acctount company
like Authorize.Net.
You will need to choose a gateway provider
to go along with your merchant account
(we recommend and use Authorize.net
ourselves, they are the biggest gateway
provider around). If you're a serious,
mainstream kind of business you'll want
to obtain your own merchant account.
Where
To Start >>
Contact your bank and request information
regarding how to set up a merchant account.
- Use
PayPal
- they allow you to sign up free and
process cards without having a real
merchant account (they charge you a
small fee on each purchase). There is
no monthly cost, but their shopping
cart window pops up when a user adds
an item to their shopping cart or goes
through checkout on your site... so
it's not a seamless, transparent integration.
Where
To Start >>
Go to PayPal
and follow their instructions on setting
up a new business or premiere account.
Once you have done this, contact us
and we will complete the integration
process with PayPal.
Here
are the steps that take place 'behind
the scenes' when a credit card is
processed on your site:
- User
puts things in their shopping
cart
- User
clicks "Go to Checkout"
- User
enters name and address info
- User
enters credit card number and
clicks "Submit" button
to process the transaction
- The
amount, card number and customer
name & address information
go to a gateway company,
and they check with Master Card
or VISA, etc. to make sure the
card is valid and has not reached
it's limit.
- The
gateway company returns
a code to your web site saying
that the card was either approved
or declined and why.
- A
confirmation email is automatically
generated from your web site to
the customer, with their order
details, and one is also generated
to you, the merchant, with the
same details, only your email
has the credit card procesing
info on it also.
- If
the card was approved, the gateway
company deposits the amount
into your bank account within
24-48 hours usually.
